John Cage: Four Walls

Four Walls werd in 1942 geschreven als een samenwerking tussen John Cage en Merce Cunningham, en 50 jaar later zou Alexei Lubimov het voor het eerst spelen en ervan leren houden. in 2012 stelde de uitstekende danser Mikhail Baryshnikov, die Lubimovs bewondering voor Cage en zijn talrijke concerten met zijn muziek kende, voor om Four Walls te spelen op het podium van zijn Baryshnikov Arts Center (New York) met dansers. Voor Lubimov is het echter ook muziek onafhankelijk van het podium, vooruitlopend op de stijl van Philip Glass, Arvo Pärt en, in het algemeen, de hele stroming van het minimalisme.

It’s a suitably unsettling experience, heightened by the brief, yearning contribution of solo soprano Marianne Pousseur."
