Na hun veelgeprezen Naxos-opname van de Pianokwintetten van Fauré (8570938) - 'warm expressief, hun frasering genereus en intens' (The Guardian) - bundelen Cristina Ortiz en het Fine Arts Quartet opnieuw hun krachten voor deze opname van Francks Pianokwintet, waarvan het buitengewone emotionele bereik wordt verenigd door de strakke thematische relaties die kenmerkend zijn voor de 'cyclische' structurering van de componist. Zijn Strijkkwartet, tien jaar later gecomponeerd, is een hoogtepunt van Francks prestatie, ook cyclisch opgevat en waaruit zijn bewondering voor Beethoven, Mendelssohn en Brahms blijkt.
