Paul Dukas is beroemd om zijn briljante, zorgvuldig gecomponeerde symfonische scherzo The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, voor het eerst uitgevoerd in 1897, dat vrijwel onmiddellijk zijn intrede deed in het internationale repertoire. Het was vervolgens de focus van een ballet en later Walt Disney's film Fantasia. Magische partituur is ook een kenmerk van La péri, een poème dansé met een grote fantasierijke verve. Halverwege deze werken werd de prachtige, kleurrijke Symfonie in C gecomponeerd. Voor deze opname werden manuscriptbronnen voor de drie werken geraadpleegd, waaronder de tot nu toe privébewijzen van de eerste editie van The Sorcerer's Apprentice, wat een strikt getrouwe uitvoering garandeert.

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is een van de grote orkestrale pronkstukken en internationaal beroemd. Het werd gebruikt in de Disney-film Fantasia. La Péri is minder bekend, maar heerlijk georkestreerd en vol belangstelling. De Symfonie in C wordt niet zo vaak uitgevoerd als zou moeten voor zo'n kleurrijke partituur, maar heeft wel schijfdirigenten aangetrokken als Yan-Pascal Tortelier, Jean Fournet, Jean Martinon, Walter Weller, Leonard Slatkin en een aantal anderen. Voor deze opname zijn de originele manuscriptbronnen voor alle drie de werken geraadpleegd, zodat de intenties van de componist worden gerespecteerd.
