Gorecki: String Quartets Nos. 1 and 2

Tippett Quartet

Met het late succes van zijn Derde Symfonie 'Symphony of Sorrowful Songs', ontpopte Górecki zich in de jaren negentig als een componist van wereldformaat. Tussen 1988 en 1995 schreef hij drie strijkkwartetten voor het Kronos Quartet die tot zijn belangrijkste rijpe werken behoren. Strijkkwartet nr. 1 onthult koraalachtige thema's, zo kenmerkend voor zijn latere werk, evenals hectische, dansante beweging, terwijl het bredere expressiebereik van het Tweede Kwartet expliciet Beethoven oproept. Genesis I: Elementi biedt een krachtig contrast - een strijktrio uit 1962 met een compromisloze directheid.
