Het symfonisch gedicht "La Tragédie de Salomé" van Florent Schmitt, een leerling van Massenet en Fauré, vormt de opmaat tot deze opname van werken van de Franse, impressionistische componist. Zijn werken zijn sterk geïnspireerd door de muziek van Richard Wagner en Claude Debussy. De stukken worden enerzijds gekenmerkt door gevoelige momenten, maar ook door uiterst intense dramatiek.
